About the Conference

The Faculty of Education at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, is one of the university's seven faculties. It evolved from the university's commitment to producing professionally qualified teachers and educational leaders grounded in academic excellence and moral values. Although educational activities began through Continuing Education and Extension Services on 1 March 2008, the Faculty was formally established on 5 June 2011 as an outreach unit of the University. At inception, it operated with two departments, namely, Arts and Social Sciences Education and Educational Management, and offered six academic programmes with an initial enrolment of eleven students.

The establishment of the Faculty coincided with the rapid expansion of Al-Hikmah University, which was founded in 2005 by the Abdur-Raheem Oladimeji Islamic Foundation (AROIF) and licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a faith-based private university. As the university grew beyond its three pioneer faculties, the Faculty of Education was created to address the need for competent teachers, educational administrators, counsellors and community development practitioners. Its objectives include producing professionally qualified teachers for primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions; fostering collaboration between the university and society; and contributing to educational and community development in Kwara State, Nigeria, and the world at large.

Over the years, the faculty has experienced significant growth in academic programmes, staff strength, and student population. From its original two departments, it has expanded to four, namely, Arts and Social Sciences Education, Educational Management and Counselling, Science Education and Business Education. The faculty now offers numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including regular and sandwich degree programmes. Available courses include Guidance and Counselling, Educational Management, Science Education, Business Education, Arabic Education, Islamic Studies Education, and Library and Information Science. Today, the faculty serves hundreds of students, and it continues to advance Al-Hikmah University’s motto, “Learning for Wisdom and Morality", by preparing educators who combine professional competence with ethical and moral values.
